WASPS skipper Dougie Hill says they give their all to spoil Rangers' title party when the two sides meet at Ibrox Stadium this weekend.

Mark Warburton's men will receive the SPFL Championship trophy following the live SKY TV encounter on Sunday, but the big defender says Alloa must focus on producing a performance to continue their recent run of form.

The former Raith Rovers centre back is out of contract in the summer like the rest of the squad, but insists any talk of new contracts will be put to one side until the season is over.

Hill told Advertiser sport: “Players contracts are a question for another day and we will wait to see what happens with the gaffer first and foremost and then play out the rest of our games first. I am open to offers at the end of the day and I want to continue to play at the highest level I can. If that is here at Alloa then great because I have really enjoyed myself here since Jack has came in and he is definitely the right man to take the club forward.

“It is certainly a big occasion for us to be involved in this weekend and we simply have to go and do what we have been doing recently and put in a performance we can be proud of. They will be looking to go out on a high at home, so we will need to match their desire and hunger to win the game. Hopefully, we can go there and spoil the party. We know it will be a very difficult task for us, but hopefully we can just play it like it's the first game of the season and we need to remain professional to keep going until the end.”

Hill was unlucky not to add his own name to score sheet last weekend after striking the woodwork twice and he admits they were disappointed not earn themselves back to back wins for the first time this season.

He said: “Jason and I decided to switch it up a bit because my usual run is to go around the back post and it is something we have worked on recently. To be fair it nearly came off for us, but it wasn't to be. We are really disappointed not to win the game because I think we deserved it, but you cannot expect to win games in this league when you defend like we did for the two goals. The second goal is the most infuriating because the smallest guy on the park nodding in a free header just isn't acceptable. Even although we know our fate is sealed in terms of the league, pride-wise you have to do better than that.

“Since the gaffer has came in, he has been big on keeping the mood up and helping us to focus on the positives and I think the one thing he has changed is that we are simply harder to beat now. No complaints about either of the penalties because they were both stone wallers, but for us to play as a decent defensive unit in recent weeks then lead twice it was bitterly disappointing not to win the game.”

The 31-year-old skipper was pleased by the reaction of Celtic youngster Connor McManus who recovered from conceding a penalty to scoring the Wasps second goal and he reckons it will stand him in good stead for the future.

Hill added: “It is a positive sign for young Connor in terms of his development and the rest of his career that he was able to bounce right back from conceding the penalty to go up the other end and score by far the best goal of the game.”
