ALLOA manager Jack Ross admits he has been frustrated by the lack of moment on the transfer front over the past week.

The Wasps boss added goalkeeper Neil Parry and re-signed Lewis Wilson late last week, but has thus far been left playing the waiting game as the rest of his current squad still weigh up their own futures.

The former Clyde defender does sympathise with the decisions facing players at this time of the year, but warned his current stars that they cannot wait around forever for them.

Ross told Advertiser sport: “We are trying to get things done as quickly as we can at the moment and we have done that so far with the likes of Neil and Kevin coming in, but there are some from the squad of last season who I still want to keep. They are still keeping their options open at the moment and there are a few potential new signings who are in the same position so it is a wee bit frustrating, but it is the same predicament that a lot of part time teams find themselves in at this time of the year. I am hopeful to know more by the end of this week as to whether we need to firm up other options.

“We are certainly not going to take a scatter gun approach. I am trying to be quite methodical in my approach to each player we add to the squad. That is certainly the case with the players we have identified as well as the players we have offered deals to, but we should certainly be a lot further on by the middle of next week.

“There is certainly no panic at this stage. Of the players we've offered deals to I don't expect to lose all of them. A few may go elsewhere, but that is the nature of football and I am confident that I have a number of new targets keen to come here as well. The reputation of the club amongst part time players is excellent so that has been a big help to me in attracting new players so I am quite comfortable with where we are at just now. The pre-season plans are in place, the friendlies are all organised and we are having the pitch relaid so everything else is in place and ready to go.”

Ross was delighted to tie up a deal for the experienced ex-Airdrie keeper Parry and revealed that he will likely be the club's number one choice in the coming season.

The gaffer also confirmed that Scott Gallacher will not be returning to the club this summer as he looks to seek full time football.

He said: “The goalkeeper is an important position in any team because they can win you points over the course of the season. Scott Gallacher did that for us in his time with the club. Scott was always clear that he wanted to go full time again this summer, but I think the fact that he enjoyed it here at the club so much put some doubt in his mind about maybe staying.

“Unfortunately, he has since clarified that he will be looking to go full time and not returning for us, but I am grateful to him for letting me know so early on because that gave me the chance to go and tie up Neil Parry. He was keen to come to the club even if Scott was going to re-sign. When he showed that kind of commitment to us then I was keen to tie him up because he had a great season for Airdrie last year. He is a top keeper at this level and is experienced within the league so he will be a big asset for us.

“I am not in desperate need of another goalkeeper. We have an excellent young goalkeeper in Andrew Wilson who has the potential to go on and be a top keeper in years to come. I feel I have a very good first choice keeper. It may be something we look at again further down the line, but at the moment it is not a priority in terms of the squad.”

The 39-year-old boss is hoping to blood more of the Wasps talented crop of youngsters during the League One campaign, but says they must be ready to grab their opportunity.

Ross added: “The squad was a big one last year and the league was such a competitive one so those two factors combined to limit the younger players to very few opportunities. I think this season the squad will be smaller so with the nature of the game in terms of injuries and suspensions then opportunities will likely open up for them more often. That is what it is normally like for a young player and it is all about taking an opportunity when they come along so they need to be ready for that.

“We have the likes of Lewis Wilson, Scott Hynd and hopefully Ryan Hoggan in the coming week who can all go and prove they can play in the first team regularly for us. They are all another year older and stronger so it is important that they grab their chances when they come this year.”
