ALLOA boxing club's annual show packed a punch as they held their annual showcase night at the Alloa town hall last Friday, May 13 at Alloa Town Hall.

The first bout of the night saw 11-year-old Max Candlish from Alloa, making his in-ring debut, against Junior McDonagh from Bannockburn. Both boys went toe to toe for three rounds in a great opening contest. Local fighter Max came out on the wrong end of a split decision, but he will have learnt a great deal from his very first bout.

Bout Two saw Alloa's own Scottish champion Dylan Smith, 12, up against Ryan Preston from Dunfermline.

Dylan's class was clear to see from the start landing every shot in the book forcing the referee to stop the contest in the second round for an emphatic victory.

In Bout three, Jack Boyd was representing the host club and he put in a great display of boxing to defeat Liam Roy of Perth on a split decision.

Alloa middle weight Connor Bernard was in against Steven Ross from Galashiels in bout four. Connor landed some big shots forcing the referee to give Ross a standing 8 count in round one, the visiting fight would make it through the round and the rest of the bout, but it was Bernard who went on to win the bout on all judges scorecards to the delight of the home crowd.

Bout five saw light heavy weight Josh Barnes lose out in a close decision to Ryan Dylan from Lochee.

There was more heartbreak to come for the hosts in bout six as home fighter Dawid Theus lost a uniamouns decision against the tough David Simmer from Dunfermline.

Bout seven was an exhibition bout between Alloa's Brandon Brown and Martin Harkins from Greenock due to a big weight difference. Both boys put on a great display of boxing over a three round contest.

Bout eight was an emotional one as it saw coach Stevie Bernard have his last competitive bout as he approaches the age limit of 40. Stevie put in a great display against his opponent Jamie Stafford from Cambusnethan, who is 17years his junior, but there was to be no fairytale ending as he lost out in a close split decision.

Bout 9 saw Alloa's Robbie Jack put in one of his best performances in a boxing ring to date as he beat Lewis Henderson from Perth in style, landing some eye catching combinations on route to victory.

One of Alloa's busiest fighters, Anas Nfaou, also fought on the bill, but was forced into an exhibition after his original opponent pulled out last minute ill. Anas was also through in Glasgow on the Saturday training with the Scotland squad.

Bout 11 was an eagerly anticipated one as it saw big hitting local hero Robbie Prosser in against James Munro from Dunfermline. The bout didn't last long after Robbie caught James with a big right hand that scored him a knock out win after only 30 seconds.

The final bout on the card saw the very tough Connor Sharp of Alloa take on Chris Hogg from Wellmeadow in what turned out to be an all action back and forth fight. The home crowd was sent home happy as Connor Sharp prevailed to win the bout on a split decision.

Alloa boxing club would to thank the public for another fantastic turn out. The boxers all really appreciated the support. Also the club would like to say a huge thanks to all the sponsors for helping make the night possible.
