NEW boy Jordan Kirkpatrick is out to make amends at Alloa Athletic after tortmenting the club on the park as a Dumbarton player in recent years.

The talented midfielder signed for the Wee County outfit last week and admits the chance to join back up with gaffer Jack Ross was a massive draw for him.

Now he hopes he can win the Wasps fans over in the coming season as he aims to help fire the club into promotion contention in League One.

Kirkpatrick told Advertiser sport: “I have been speaking to Jack since January to try and make this move happen and luckily enough, he got back in touch last week and I am delighted to have tied things up so sharply. I can't wait to get started now and my focus is purely on getting a good preseason behind so I can do my best for the club. Jack was a massive factor for me and it was actually him who took me to Dumbarton in the first place.

“I have a great relationship with him and I am a big fan of the way he works and how he conducts his training so it was an easy decision for me to come here in the end. Alloa were always one of those teams who I could always get goals against in the past, but hopefully now it will work the other way and I can get plenty of goals for them. I probably have a bit of making up to do with the fans.

“The ambition of the manager and the club to go and win the league or at least get promotion was also a big draw in coming here. I think the way the manager works, any new players coming into the club should have that mindset from day one here and I am sure that will be drilled into us further in pre-season. Hopefully that will allow us to go for it from the very start and hit the ground running.”

Kirkpatrick is hopeful his experience in the SPFL Championship with Dumbarton in recent seasons will make him well equipped to deal with the pressures of what promises to be a tight League One campaign this coming season.

He said: “I think League One will be very competitive this season because there is a lot of tough teams in there. Hopefully my experience over the past few seasons in the Championship so hopefully that will stand me in good stead and I can step in there to reach the same levels in my performances. I hope to add some goals as well this season so hopefully I have brought my shooting boots with me.”

The former Hamilton Academical trainee hopes to play an attacking role for the Wasps this term, and is desperate to show his new side what he can do.

Kirkpatrick added: “I do move about a lot in terms of positions and I am flexible across the midfield, but I would probably say my preferred position is the middle of the three just in behind the striker. That is the one that gives me the most freedom to play my game and hopefully I can get a chance in there for Alloa to show what I can do, but I will play wherever the manager needs me to in order to do my bit for the team.”
