WASPS gaffer Jack Ross declared himself happy with his side's Betfred Cup fixtures after they were confirmed last week.

Alloa will travel to face Montrose and Raith Rovers, and will host cup holders Ross County and Highland League champions Cove Rangers.

The Wasps boss believes the fixtures have been kind to his side and says he is now looking forward to the competition getting under way.

Ross told Advertiser Sport: “We are pleased in the sense that having two midweek games at home is huge for us as a part-time team. The two home fixtures are attractive because we have Cove, who are a relatively unknown quantity, and we have Ross County who are the holders. The supporters have two away games, at Montrose which I am sure they will enjoy and Raith Rovers who are a bigger club from a higher league.”

The manager says the competition will provide good preparation ahead of the league season, and revealed the Wasps have also arranged a friendly as they look to ensure they are in the best possible shape to challenge for an immediate return to the Championship.

He added: “People will take various approaches to the games, and depending where you are further on in the process it might alter your approach as well. We will take a friendly against Cowdenbeath on the 16th of July so we are not going ten days without a game so it has altered our approach in that sense.”
