ALLOA Boxing Club's youngsters stole the headlines once again with a string of stunning performances over the past two weeks to end their season on a high.

On Sunday 22nd of May, Dylan Smith and Max Candlish were in action on the Springhill show in Shotts. First up was Max in only his second contest, up against Euan Thomson from Springhill.

Max was the aggressor from the first bell using his jab and back hand very well in an exciting fight, but after three very close rounds Euan was declared the winner on a split decision.

Next up was current Scottish intermediate champion Dylan Smith, 12, in against two-time Western District champion and current open class Scottish champion Sam Allan, 14, from Springhill. In round one Sam come out very confidently, and with the home crowd right behind him he tried to be the aggressor, trying to push Dylan back.

However, Dylan boxed very smart, countering Sam with some very eye catching shots. Sam kept trying to apply the pressure but couldn't land a glove on Dylan. Round two was much the same with Sam getting the odd successful shot, but Dylan stuck to the tactics throughout the bout to score a career best win.

This was a great win for Dylan against a Scottish champion 14 months older than him.

Alloa coach John Whyte has been involved with Alloa Boxing Club for 17 years and said Dylan is the best young prospect he had seen at the club which is a great compliment for the young man as the club has had many talented lads and champions in his time.

Next up for the club on May 27 at Hampden Park was Max Candlish and light heavy weight Robbie Prosser.

First up was Max in a skills bout against Jay Delaney from Hamilton. Max boxed brilliantly from the first bell landing some nice three-punch combinations. He boxed well throughout the three rounds and is improving all the time.

In a skills bout there is no winner it's just about getting the boys experience, both boys hands were raised after three entertaining rounds. Max has had a great first season in boxing and is looking forward to the new season starting.

Up next, was 19-year-old Robbie Prosser against Robert Torrance from Bellahouston. Robbie started round one very, well slipping inside the rangy Robert's long range shots, landing some heavy hooks and uppercut.

The Bellahouston lad had some success with his jab but not enough to keep the strong Robbie from landing heavy shots. In the second, Robbie was looking a little tired after trying to finish the bout in round one, with Robert starting to land some nice shots, with Robbie still having some success of his own.

He was told he needed a good last round to the bout with it being a round apiece. Robert started the last round very confidently landing a nice two-punch combination and even starting to show a nice one-two.

Robbie wasn't done yet slipping inside Robert's long shots and landing a peach of a left hook that forced the ref to give Torrance a standing eight count.

Robbie jumped back on Torrance after the count landing a heavy first punch combination that had the game Bellahouston last lad out on his feet forcing the referee to jump in and stop the contest.

A great win for Robbie Prosser.

Last up for the club in the final bout of the season was middleweight Anas Nfaou against Owen Spence from the Meadowbank club at their home show at Tynecastle Stadium.

Anas put in his best display of the season, using his jab to great effect in round one. Round two saw Anas up the pace, putting four and five punch combinations together and using his impressive footwork to get out of trouble.

Owen was always in the fight but Anas was on top form in round three, opening up a cut over the right eye of Owen and forcing a standing eight count. After three fantastic rounds, Anas was declared the winner and also won the best away boxer award to round off a great season for the club.

The club has had a fantastic season and already getting ready for the new season ahead. The club would like to that everyone that's supported the club over the last season.
