ALLOA Athletic manager Jack Ross has urged his players to go out and make history when they face SPFL Premiership side Inverness Caledonian Thistle in the last 16 of the Betfred Cup.

The Wasps boss has been thrilled by his side’s early-season form and says it has his men full of confidence as they look to pull off another giant-killing feat this evening, having already knocked out Raith Rovers and Ross County in the competition.

Ross told Advertiser Sport: “I believe Tuesday’s game against Inverness is every bit as important as the league for me.

"We didn’t put as much as we did into the group stage to roll over and have our tummy tickled just because it is Premiership opponents. We are there to win the game and it is a long time since the club were last in the quarter finals of this competition.

"In that sense, it would be a massive achievement for the club and we absolutely want to progress in this tournament.

"We know it will be a very difficult game again, but we are going into it with the best possible frame of mind.”

Jordan Kirkpatrick was the two-goal hero last weekend as the Wee County outfit made quick work of Peterhead.

And the 24-year-old believes he and his teammates stand a great chance of causing another shock if they can maintain their current level of form.

He said: “It is a massive game for us to enjoy and being at home is a great thing for us. It will be interesting for them to come and play on our new pitch and hopefully with the fans behind us we can have a real go at them.

"It will be an interesting game and probably a completely different type of challenge to the one we faced against Ross County because it is now the knockout stage.

"I think each game so far has presented us with a new challenge and we have come through each one.

"If we can just play the way we want to and have been doing then I think we have a chance of causing an upset."

Returning hero Kevin Cawley posted an early contender for goal of the season with a spectacular volley in the 4-0 win over Peterhead and he reckons the Wasps have already shown that they shouldn’t be underestimated by their more prestigious opponents.

He added: “The Inverness game is a massive one for us, and there is no doubt it will be a tough game.

"We have already shown with the win over Ross County that we can compete with teams from that level and so the chance to get into the quarter finals is a great incentive for us.”
