Scottish under 13 and under 20 championships: Grangemouth, Saturday, August 20.

CENTRAL AC’s Balfron contingent were on top form at the Scottish under 13 championships as Coirilidh Cook, Katie Burr and Amy Kirkpatrick all took medals at the Scottish under 13 championships.

They came into the championships full of confidence having already won a Scottish title just six days earlier as the three of them teamed up along with Mia Glen to break Scottish under 13 4x100m relay record and take gold.

Coirilidh breezed through her 70m hurdles heat in a superb personal best 11.48s, the 5th fastest time ever run by a Scottish athlete in this age group, to qualify a clear second ahead of the opposition.

This time was just 0.18s away from the club, championship and Scottish record set by former Central AC athlete Stephanie O’Neil in 2006 so Coirilidh had high hopes of bettering this in the final.

However a strong headwind forced her to change her stride at the start putting the record beyond her reach but she came through strongly to win clearly in 11.57s and claim her first ever Scottish title.

Katie Burr finished a creditable 5th in the hurdles with 12.61s but her best came in the javelin event where she was on top form as she won the gold medal with a fantastic personal best 26.84s.

This distance broke a club record that had stood since 1990 and is within 3 metres of the Scottish all-time top 10 for the age group.

Amy Kirkpatrick took on the 200m and 800m double. In the 800m she renewed her rivalry with Emma Johnson of Edinburgh AC and the 2 of them pulled clear of the rest of the field.

Amy fought hard and while Emma ended up winning Amy ran an excellent personal best 2:25.41, an impressive time for this age group, for the silver medal.

Amy then followed up her success in the 800m with a bronze in the 200m in 28.50s. Amy can be proud of being a double Scottish medallist.

Molly Cornes set a personal best in javelin for 6th in 17.77m behind Katie.

olly along with Rebecca Cumming both set a personal bests at the high jump as they both cleared 1.26m. Molly placed 8th having cleared it first time with Rebecca 12th on countback.

Many of the athletes were experiencing Scottish championship competition for the first time ever.

Andrew McLay threw a personal best 23.13m for 5th in the javelin.

Mia Glen, the 4th member of the record breaking relay team, just missed out on the 100m final. Her pb 14.26s in the heats would have qualified but she was unable to repeat this in the semi and missed out by one place. Amy Johnston also reached the 100m semi running 14.70s.

Finlay Muir won his 800m heat to place 7th overall with 2:31.48 minutes, Euan Campbell also won his 800m heat with 2:36.81 minutes.

Finlay Marchant set a personal best 15.38s in the 100m and Naomi Howlieson was close to her personal best in the 200m with 32.68s.

In the under 20 age group Cameron McCorgray took 4th place in the high jump wth 1.81m, Euan Brownlie was 6th in the 5000m running 17:16.92 minutes and Bradley Scott placed 10th in the 1500m with 4:18.72 minutes.

Scottish under 15 championships: Grangemouth, Sunday, August 21.

CENTRAL AC won three gold medals at the Scottish under 15 championships at Grangemouth as Lucy Davison and Katie Sharkey came out on top in their events.

Lucy took the lead in the long jump from the start with 5.07m in the first round then improved this with 5.16m, 5.26m then set a new personal best 5.39m to secure the gold medal. She was similarly dominant in the shot taking the lead with 11.04m in the first round which was never challenged for her second gold of the day.

Katie, competing in the 75m hurdles, found herself up against a strong Northern Irish competitor, but after breezing through her heat in 11.71s took an early lead in the final, which was never challenged to win in a personal best 11.41s. Her time would have placed her in the Scottish all-time top 10 for the age group but the wind was over the legal limit.

Abby Davison was unlucky not to medal in a fast 200m race after sprinting to a personal best 26.12s. Shona Harrower was 6th in the shot with 8.95m, Ben McMillan and Rosie Eckersley ran well in their 1500m heats, Ben won his in 4:35.69 and Rosie ran 5:09.26 minutes to qualify but were unable to reproduce this in the final.

Daniel Bruce finished the day happy after setting personal bests in all 3 events he contested with 1.47m at high jump, 4.32m at long jump and 15.58s at 80m hurdles.

Ciorstaidh Ainsworth was very unlucky in her 800m heat, her time of 2:28.78 minutes just missed a place in the final.

Comhnall Ferguson and Ava Smith were gaining experience at this level. Comhnall threw 18.33m in the javelin and Ava ran 13.62m in the 75m hurdles and long jumped 4.22m.
