WASPS defender Andy Graham says the whole squad are relishing the pressure after being labelled as title favourites following their perfect start to the new League One season.

Alloa have won 10 games out of 10 in all competitions after their Irn Bru Cup win over East Fife last weekend and the 32-year-old believes their clash with promotion rivals Livingston this weekend is a chance for them to enhance their status.

Graham told Advertiser Sport: “We were favourites at the start of the season and nothing has changed since then. That was the target the manager gave us and one we accepted as a group so there is no point in saying anything else because that is definitely the target to win the league.

“We know it is going to be hard because we have full time teams like Livingston and Airdrie in the league plus seasoned teams in there like Brechin and Peterhead, but we certainly believe we can challenge for the title.

“Every game is a big one for us if we are going to look to win the league and the Livingston one is no different. Every three points matter to us and last week’s win at Albion Rovers is just as important as the game against Livingston will be.

“It would be great if we could get the three points though because it would really put a marker down in terms of our title ambitions. We just have to keep going out and getting results now.

“We have a great home record now and if that puts doubt in our opponents heads then great, but we can only take care of ourselves and see where it takes us.”

Graham has been a key player for Jack Ross’ side as the defensive line have helped them record seven clean sheets in 10 games and the veteran defender believes that has been down to having a steady backline.

The powerful centre also recognised the manager was building something very early on after arriving at the club in mid-July and he reckons it is one of the best dressing rooms he has ever been involved with.

He said: “Every player is full of confidence at the moment and I think that is down to the atmosphere in the dressing room.

“It is one of the best, if not the best, one I have been involved in, but we knew that right from pre-season.

“It doesn’t just come from winning games. We knew early on that it was a good group and one that would work well together.

“There is nothing better than football when you are winning games, so being on this sort of run means we look forward to every training session and every game.

“The manager’s training is always really high tempo so all of the boys really enjoy it and I think that carries over into the weekend with the way that we play.

“The clean sheets are important for big Neil and also us as defenders because it means we are doing something right.

“We have good continuity in the back four because it has virtually been the same throughout, but even with Jason Marr being injured Jim Goodwin stepped in easily and I think that understanding there is why you have seen so many clean sheets from us.

“It has been important to keep everyone fit, but we are starting to really gel as a group and play with each other a lot more and I think that is beginning to show.”
