A KARATE expert from Tillicoultry fought his way to being crowned world champion at a tournament in Glasgow.

Cameron Scobie, 20, won the 18-21 age group at the Japan Karate Shoto (JKS) World Championships at the Emirates Arena where over 27 countries competed.

Cameron progressed through the rounds and eventually won a hard fought final against an Israeli opponent to conquer the competition.

Becoming world champion has been his dream and Cameron is absolutely delighted to claim the title.

He said: “I'm very, very pleased to have won the competition.”

Also fighting on the day was Cameron's older brother Lewis and their 14-year-old cousin Sam Scobie.

The Alloa Academy pupil won a world champion title as part of the Scottish team that won gold in the 14-16 age group.

The teenager has joined the JKS Scotland Elite Squad this year and will travel with Cameron and the rest of the squad to Copenhagen for the JKS Danish Open in October.

Cameron said he was “very chuffed” for his cousin.

Lewis, 25, reached the senior Kata final, which is a great result in a competition dominated by the Japanese.

Cameron started training along with big brother Lewis when he was just four at the urging of his mother Jacquie.

Both he and Lewis are now helping bring on the next generation of world beaters as full-time Karate instructors with Active Schools and Cameron also runs evening classes in Dollar twice a week.

Both brothers would like to thank United Closures and Plastic Ltd of Bridge of Allan and Gordon Morson of MacDonald and Morson Dental practice for their kind sponsorship.
