William Hill Scottish Cup

A LIGHTNING start put BSC Glasgow on their way to the club’s first ever Scottish Cup victory on Saturday.

The Lowland League side, who play their home games at the Indodrill Stadium in Alloa, will now host Beith Juniors in the second round of the competition.

Mark Adams’ side struck twice in eight minutes through Shaun Bowers and the red-hot Aidan Ferris, before Ryan Stuart pulled the visitors back into the game.

Neither side could find the next goal, with BSC having the ball in the net only for the linesman’s flag to deny them three times, until Tom Woods found the energy in the very last minute to drive forward and confirm the victory.

Adams’ named an unchanged side from last week’s impressive victory over Heriot-Watt University, and it looked to be the right decision within minutes of kick off.

A powerful run down the right by Bowers left gaps in the Rothes defence as he cut inside and found Mark Dryden in an advanced position. Dryden laid it back to the Celtic loanee to smash home into the roof of the net for his first goal for the club.

BSC doubled their lead less than a minute later when Woods slipped in Ferris to finish well past McIntosh.

The visitors' replied with an impressive solo goal from Stuart, the winger driving into the area from the right and slotting into the corner to send the Rothes fans behind the goal wild.

Just before the half hour mark, captain Dryden curled a shot beyond McIntosh, only to be denied his first goal of the season by the offside flag.

Woods then came within inches of scoring with a superb swerving effort which smacked off the inside of the post and out.

The second half started well for the visitors, but BSC held strong and didn’t give up many big opportunities.

Ferris had the second of BSC’s disallowed goals with 15 minutes to go – a nice pass from Robert Jones left him through to finish low, only for offside to again be given.

McNamara had the host’s best chance in the closing stages, finding a bit of space in the box after a run from Sean Jennings, but he fired wide of Joe Wilton’s left post.

BSC were stunned as a third goal was disallowed for offside in the last minute. Woods cut a corner back to an unmarked Duncan on the corner of the box, who floated a shot in at the back post, only for the flag to go up once more.

It did not matter in the end, however, as Woods countered again, driving forward with too much speed for the Rothes back line and firing past McIntosh to continue his excellent goalscoring start to the season.

BSC now look forward to next month's home tie against Beith Juniors, but before then they face a trip to Selkirk on league duty next Saturday. Ferris netted a last minute winner the last time the two sides met at Yarrow Park in March.
