ALLOA ATHLETIC defensive rock Andy Graham says they simply must do better after throwing away a 2-0 lead a four-goal thriller at Stenhousemuir last weekend.

The Wasps were in command for much of the match, but the 33-year-old says they must not allow a poor second half display to undo all their hard work that sees them top of SPFL League One table.

Graham told Advertiser Sport: “There is no excuses for us. We should absolutely see the game out, we have to do better for the goals and maybe a little more ruthless at the other end as well, so we are really disappointed.

"For all that this result feels like a defeat for us, it is done now and we cannot do anything about it. We just take the point, dust ourselves down and move onto the next one.

“I don’t think the tough week played a part in the outcome against Stenhousemuir.

"Three game in a week is of course hard and Wednesday was a particularly tough shift, but we have a team full of fit lads who look after themselves so I don’t think we can use that as an excuse.

“I think it was just as a team and individually we have got to see that game out to get the three points. Bottom line is we didn’t do it and I think it was down to switching off at key points in the second half rather than any notions of tiredness and it has cost us.”

Graham reckons the Wee County outfit should have seen the game out despite Jim Goodwin’s red card making life more difficult for them.

This weekend, Airdrie are the visitors to the Indodrill Stadium and the big defender expects another tough challenge, but insists the gaffer will have them right up for the match.

He said: “The red card makes life more difficult for us, of course it does, and by all accounts we have no complaints about the decision, but we should still have enough to see the game out at 2-0 up.

“We will get straight back into training and build towards the Airdrie game.

“It will be a tough challenge for us with them being full time and I expect them to be right up there as contenders at the top of the table come the end of the season.

"We won’t treat this one any different to any other game though. The manager does his research really well and he will no doubt have a game plan ready for us. We will be ready to go for that one make no mistake about that.”

The former Dumbarton and Ayr United defender says he does not read too much into league positions at this point of the season and is just instead focusing on helping the Wasps get back to winning ways this weekend.

Graham added: “We don’t read too much into being top of the league at this point of the season because the only time that matters is in May when the medals are dished out. Last weekend was another point towards that target and that is the way we must look at it.

“We just have to get back to the positivity that we have created from the start of the season.

"We have a good feeling about the club this season and so we are certainly not going to let one poor half of football derail all the hard work we have put in to get to this point, so we will look to get back on track with a win.”
