THE athletes at Alloa Boxing Club have been keeping themselves busy as they prepare for their much-anticipated home show at the town hall this weekend.

On Friday, September 30, the club kicked off their season with the Kingdom Show at Pettycur Bay in Kinghorn.

First up was middleweight Anas Nfaou against Keith Guthrie from the home club with Anas starting well and landing some good jabs and controlling the first round.

The second round saw the Kingdom fighter come out strongly, trying to drag Anas into a brawl, but the Alloa boxer stayed calm and stuck to his boxing throughout the contest to win on all scorecards.

The main event of the evening was local favourite Stewart Kean against Alloa’s Connor Sharp in what turned out to be a cracking tear up with both boys landing hurtful shots from the first bell right to the last.

But after three hard rounds of boxing, the local lad got the win by split decision.

Meanwhile, last Friday saw Scottish champion Dylan Smith, 13, Thomas O’Neil, 17, current intermediate champion, and former Scottish and Eastern District champion Brandon Brown, 20, box on the Cleland Show.

First up was hard-hitting Thomas against Jack Nicholas from Celan, although this was just an exhibition as there was a difference in weight.

Both boys put on a great display of boxing over three rounds and Thomas is looking forward to boxing on his home show at Alloa Town Hall on Friday.

Next up was Dylan against Kieron Doherty from the Cleland Club.

The former boxed brilliantly in the first round, countering the rangy Cleland lad and forcing a standing eight-count after rocking his opponent with a lovely back hand.

Round two was much of the same with Dylan picking Kieron off, with the Cleland boy getting the odd success inside.

After three rounds of boxing, and to the amazement of the coaches and the crown, the local lad got the win on a split decision.

Topping the bill was Brandon against the popular Elliot O’Donnell from Cleland and it was always going to be a hard bout for the Alloa man with his opponent having more than 50 bouts under his belt.

Brandon started well, picking off the tall Elliot with some lovely counter shots.
He then rocked the Cleland fighter with a left hook followed by a back hand in a contest that swayed back and forth.

After the three rounds, Brandon was declared the winner and the contest received the bout of the night award.

Elsewhere, middleweight Anas featured in another top-of-the-bill contest at the Lochaber Show on Saturday.

After three rounds, he was announced the winner in what has been a great start to the season for the club.

Next up is their home show on Friday where 14 local fighters will be in action.
There will be limited tickets available from the Bowmar Centre, priced at £15 (downstairs) and £10 (balcony).
