THE town hall was packed out last Friday as the athletes from Alloa Boxing Club held a their hotly-contested homeshow.

There was a range of talent on display for the crowd, with bouts featuring young primary school upstarts and others showcasing a number of Scottish champions.

First up was the cub bout pitting nine-year-old Lennon Murray against Connor McCabe from O'Neils BC in Cambuslang.

Both boys put on a great display of boxing throughout the contest, and as it is a cub bout, there is no winner.

However, Lennon is Alloa's youngest ever competitor with club coach John Whyte saying the youngster is a very dedicated young lad, who never misses a training session, and who has a very bright future in boxing.

Up next was 11-year-old Max Candlish up against Euan Thomson from Springhill.

The two threw shots from the first bell, right to the last in a very close contest with Euan getting the win by split decision.

Brandon Beveridge then took to the ring to face Robbie Souter from the Shire Boxing Club.

The Alloa fighter put in his best performance to date, boxing superbly throughout the three rounds and giving the tough Robbie a standing eight-count in Round 3 and going on to win the contest on all scorecards.

Brandon is back in action in the novice championships later this month.

Current Scottish champion Dylan Smith, 13, then took on Western District champion Kieran Doherty from Cleland Dylan. The former boxed a smart, countering the tall Kieran with some lovely combinations throughout the contest and getting a very good win on all scorecards.

The crowd were then brought to their feet for the bout between current Scottish novice female champion Kelly Whalen and Connie Ramsay from Springhill.

In what was one of the bouts of the night, both women went toe-to-toe, landing some hurtful shots on one another that had the crowd going wild.

But after three very tough rounds, Kelly was declared the winner by split decision.

Heavyweight Liam Ross then kept the crowd entertained with an exhibition contest, before the undefeated Jack Boyd made his appearance.

The 16-year-old faced Liam Roy from Perth, but the Clacks fighter was in control of the contest in all three rounds, going on to secure another win.

Jack will also be back in action this month at the novice championships.

There was more success for the Alloa club as super-heavyweight Dawid Theus took on John Thomson from Springhill in a entertaining contest with Alloa's Dawid getting his hand raised after three tough rounds.

Chris Whyte then took to the ring for his comeback bout, returning after five years out. It was his 50th contest and was up against Chris Hog from Well Meadow, who got the decision after three close rounds.

Light heavy weight Connor Sharp then squared off against Mark Kerr from Dunfermline. Connor boxed well, taking the contest to the tall mark and landing some hurtful body shots, which ensured victory for the saw the Alloa man after the three rounds.

In the penultimate bout of the evening, 18-year-old Robbie Jack competed in his first senior contest against the experienced Paul Murphy from O'Neils.

Both lads displayed their talents throughout and the decision could have went either way, but in the end, the O'Neils fighter got the nod by split decision.

And in the main event of the night, Alloa's two-time Scottish champion Brandon Brown in against the former Scottish, British and European champion Calum Susans from Dunfermline.

Round 1 saw Brandon box excellent, picking off the more experienced Calum with some eye-catching counter-punching.

However, Round 2 was a much closer with both lads having some success at mid-range in a round that could of went either way.

Drama then ensued in Round 3 as an accidental clash of heads in the early stages opened up a cut above Brandon eye.

And with the blood running into the eye of Brandon and affecting his vision, the doctor stopped the contest. And as the clash was accidental, the bout was declared a no-contest.

A rematch has been arranged for the two talented lads next month.
