SAUCHIE captain Brian Morgan revealed his leg break is not as bad as first feared, but admits he has not set a date for his return despite starting on the comeback trail earlier this week.

The Beechwood Park club were left outraged by the tackle that left the skipper with a broken fibula in the last minute of a fiery 4-2 win over league rivals Haddington Athletic, but he reckons it could have been even worse.

The attacking midfielder, who has scored an incredible 10 goals in 10 games already this season, revealed that he is already starting to do light gym work, but says he is just furious because the injury has left him and his family out of pocket.

Morgan told Advertiser Sport: "I suffered a broken fibula about an inch down from below my knee, but I was lucky in the sense that it was only a clean break of the lesser bone.

"Luckily, it was not the tibia, which takes all the strain of your weight, but it didn't make it any less painful. I have tried to get off the crutches in the house to try to put weight on it after a few weeks of rest and I even tried a light cardio session on the bike the other night, but I am sticking to the instructions of the physio.

"There is no timeline on when I will be back, and I am just taking it week by week at the minute.

"The way the game went you could see the Haddington players getting more and more frustrated. I went to midfield-right toward the end of the game and I actually won a 50-50 with the guy right before the second tackle.

"I heard their bench shouting for him to go through me, then I tried to hook the ball up the line, and as I kicked the ball away, he has came through the back of me.

"He caught me above and below the knee with two feet. I knew straight away something was wrong, and as I tried to get up to protest, I collapsed in agony.

"I was lucky because the grass was wet and so my studs got carried through, but I fear to think what would have happened had it been drier ground. I think it would have been a career-threatening injury. I am annoyed because I have lost out on three weeks at my work and I don't get paid while I am off."

Morgan admits he has been in some of the best form of his career so far this season, but says he is under no pressure to rush back with the side playing so well in his absence.

The popular midfielder has been taken aback by the kindness of staff and fans alike at the club after they all chipped in to support him in the aftermath of his injury.

He said: "I am absolutely desperate to get back on the pitch because I was in probably the best form for a couple of seasons. I have 10 goals already this term and I was really enjoying the new role that the gaffer has given me.

"Playing just behind the striker means I am right in the thick of the action and I can create goals as well as score them.

"There is obviously no real rush for me to get back with the lads playing so well, but obviously I am itching to get back and fight for my place in the team.

"With the squad we have now, my injury has given someone else the chance to come in and play, so just because I am captain doesn't mean I wont have to earn my slot back.

"I would just like to thank everyone at the club and all the fans who chipped into support me financially through this injury because it has been much appreciated.

"I have been overwhelmed by all the messages of support and the help from the club in getting me a top physio in Davie Jenkins, who has been absolutely first class, so hopefully I can get back quickly to repay them on the pitch."

The 27-year-old has backed is teammates to take care of business when they travel to face Brechin Vics in the second round of the Scottish Cup this weekend, and hopes he can make it back to help drive the club into the latter stages of the competition in the new year.

Morgan added: "The tie against Brechin is a bit like the previous round in that we don't know an awful lot about them going into the match, so we will just have to look after ourselves once again.

"If we perform to our best then we are a match for anyone on our day and that applies to the next round of the cup as well.

"We wouldn't have any fears no matter who we face with the form we are in at the moment and hopefully the boys can produce that again to get us through to the next round.

"If they do then I will try my very best to get myself fit in time for the next round in January."
