THE Ultra White Collar Boxing challenge for Cancer Research is returning to Alloa this year.

Another band of Wee County volunteers are already in training for next month's show, set down for December 17 at the town hall.

Scott Williamson, former Alloa FC player and current U20s coach, is among those taking part and has already picked out his nickname for the fight – the Wasp.

Though setting himself a personal target £500, he is hoping businesses in Clacks will also show their support for the event.

Explaining why he signed up for the UWCB event, Scott said: "Although I played football for a good few years, I'm not exactly a marathon runner.

"But when I saw this event being advertised, I thought, I'm going to do that. It must have been some kind of mid-life crisis.

"My uncle was diagnosed with cancer in the summer there, and that's what really spurred me on to do it. I've lost relatives to cancer as well.

"There is a big variety in those taking part and it appears that everyone involved has had a relatively had fought cancer or knows someone with it."

Earlier this year, a separate Alloa class of 16 fighters took on the challenge and raised around £6000.

With well more than 20 signed up this time, it is hoped the next event will be even more successful.

Scott said: "It's a pretty big class at the minute and it appears there are a lot more people helping out.

"I know the event earlier this year done really well we are hoping to smash that figure in December.

"I'm told this is bit where people might start dropping out due to injury and things like that. Also we haven't started hitting each other in training, which might put some people off too.

"I'll be honest, I'm hoping to not get hit too much, just to make sure I turn up on the night."

Scott will be hoping to make use of his connections at Alloa FC by getting some donations and maybe some familiar faces along for the evening.

He's already got the nickname sorted and he's hoping the club's supporters will be able to help out as well.

He said: "I'm hoping to get the go-ahead from the chairman to maybe get the Alloa Wasp on the back of my top.

"I think the nickname lends itself well: Float like a butterfly, sting like a wasp? Though I'm more like a hippo than a butterfly.

"I am hoping some of the boys at the club might come along and get a table for the night. Even if they just fancy seeing me get my head kicked in, every little helps."

He added: "I am aiming to raise £500 so if every Alloa fan at the average home game were to give just £1, then I'd be just about there already.

"One fan already donated £50, which was so generous of them.
