ZAC BUTTERWORTH has already made an impact for the Scotland U16s side recently, but will be hoping to continue his form against the Republic of Ireland this evening.

The Tillicoultry youngster came off the bench against Northern Ireland last Friday and bagged his first international goal to put the result beyond doubt.

He then played against Wales a few days later and will be in the squad for tonight's crucial showdown with the Republic of Ireland (kick off 3pm).

Should the young Scots win, they will lift the Victory Shield.

The competition has acted as a starting point for many established international players, with Darren Fletcher, Allan McGregor and Steven Fletcher all featuring in their youth.

Zac, 15, is one the many rising stars in the current U16s, which also include his Rangers teammate Billy Gilmour and the much-hyped Celtic youngster Karamoko Dembele.

The last time Scotland lifted the trophy was three years ago with a group of players who have since gone on to play regularly for the Scotland U17s and U19s teams.
