Ferrari Packaging Lowland League:

East Kilbride..........3

BSC Glasgow........1

By Sam Jenkinson

A LATE free kick from Declan Hughes killed off a spirited BSC Glasgow comeback as they tried in vain to end East Kilbride’s historic winning streak.

Aidan Ferris brought his side back into the game after early goals in each half from Hughes and Ross McNeil left the home side two goals to the good.

BSC then had the better of the game but Hughes curled a free kick into the left corner to give his side all three points.

The home side claimed an early lead when BSC keeper Joe Wilton punched clear a cross from the left, only as far as Hughes, who struck his volley sweetly into the top-right corner.

However, the visitors responded well with Lewis Bell sending a header wide before Gary Redpath saw his half volley saved by Jacob Kean.

Arnault Bembo had a chance from inside the area after some good work by Ferris to hold off a defender but his goalbound shot was blocked.

All the good work in the first half failed to produce a goal, however, and EK made their opponents pay early in the second.

A run down the left created space for McNeil on the corner of the six-yard box to hammer home and double his side’s lead.

BSC then looked to get back into the game and halfway through the second half, Ferris added to his impressive tally.

His 12th goal of the season came after a nice through ball left him one-on-one before the striker beat Kean to the ball, picked himself up and slotted into the empty net.

Redpath again came close as the nerves set in for the EK players. Ferris skinned Barry Russell down the right before getting his cross in. Redpath, however, fired just over as BSC came so close to an equaliser.

But EK ended their hopes with six minutes to go as Hughes curled in his free kick from 25 yards to extend his side’s lead at the top of the Lowland League table.

As a result, the Lanarkshire side recorded their 27th consecutive victory, eclipsing the famous record set by Ajax in the early 1970s. The Dutch giants sent representatives to the game and awarded EK with 27 crates of beer for their achievement.

BSC now dust themselves down before a three-game home run gets under way at the Indodrill Stadium in Alloa. Dalbeattie Star visit this Saturday after the two sides played out a 3-2 thriller earlier this season, with the Borders side coming out on top that day.
