On October 29, Alloa had two boxers competing in the Scottish Novice Championships in Ravenscraig regional sports facility in Motherwell.

First up was 12-year-old Max Candlish in a quarter final bout against Euan Thomson from Springhill in an action packed three rounds of boxing with Euan winning by split decision.

However, it was a great effort from young Max who is improving all the time.

Next up for Alloa was 13-year-old Brandon Beveridge in the final of the novice championships against Robbie Souter from the Shire Boxing Club.

Round one saw Robbie come out aggressively trying to put the pressure on Brandon but Brandon boxed a smart fight landing some nice long and mid range combinations.

Round two saw Brandon grow in confidence, landing some hurtful punches on the game shire lad and forcing the ref to give him a standing eight count at the end of the second round.

Round three Brandon took it up another level using two and three phase attacks to the body and head catching Robbie at will and forcing another standing 8 count with only the bell saving Robbie.

After three impressive rounds of boxing, Brandon claimed the bout by unanimous decision and being the new Scottish Champion a great achievement for the hard-working youngster.

Alloa Boxing Club’s training nights are Monday, Tuesday and Thursdays from 7pm to 9pm at Alloa Bowmar Centre.
