Alloa boss Jim Goodwin declared himself happy with a point following his side’s draw with Peterhead at Balmoor on Saturday.

The player-manager was serving a suspension and was forced to watch on as his players fought back from a goal behind to claim a draw.

And the Wasps gaffer admitted he was content with a share of the spoils following a tough encounter in the North East.

Goodwin told Advertiser Sport: “I am happy with a point to be honest.

"Over the piece, I thought Peterhead were the better team in the first half so I will give them credit for that. I thought they played really well.

"We changed our shape midway through the first half and I thought we played a bit better after that. In the second half, there wasn’t a great deal in it. Both teams had their chances. We were disappointed to go a goal down, but I am delighted with the character we showed.

"I am proud of the boys once again because they never throw in the towel. It is an important point. Many teams will struggle at Peterhead over the course of the rest of the season so we are pleased with the point.

"We set out to get all three but in the grand scheme of things, a point is not a bad outcome. It was probably a fair result.

“On a number of occasions this season we have fought back from going a goal behind. The lads are fantastic really, they have a great attitude and spirit. They stick together and drive each other on.

"Peterhead are a good side and they have some really good players throughout the team, and I expect them to climb the table. We went up to try and win the game, and although we didn’t have the best of days we showed how much togetherness we have.”

Goodwin reserved praise for youngster Ryan Hoggan, who has forced his way into the starting lineup in recent weeks, and his manager says the 18-year-old is one to watch for the future.

He said: “Hoggy did really well in the cup game and he was excellent again. He did pick up a booking and was looking a bit tired, but he is still only a young boy coming into the senior game.

"The pace of the game is completely different to the development league so I just felt that after an hour he was flagging a bit. He is showing a lot of promise and he has all the attributes to go on and be a very good player.

"There were clubs sniffing about him at the start of the season. He is versatile, has great fitness and has a fantastic attitude.

"We are delighted to have him but we expect him to kick on even more in the next couple of years and we will probably struggle to hold onto him at that point.”

After not playing at home in a month, the Wasps now have three games in succession at the Indodrill Stadium and the manager says the squad are looking forward to playing on their own territory once again.

He added: “We have got a run of home games coming up which we are delighted with because we have been on the road since the start of November.

"As a group we are delighted to have those games coming up and I’m sure all the fans will be keen to get out in numbers and get behind the boys again.”
