ALLOA hero Jordan Kirkpatrick believes his side were unlucky to leave Peterhead with just a solitary point following Saturday's stalemate in the North East.

The midfielder came off the bench to rescue the Wasps with a second-half equaliser, and he reckons their fighting spirit helped them claw their way back into the game.

But the former Dumbarton man admitted that he feels Alloa did enough to deserve to take all three points back to Clackmannanshire.

Kirkpatrick told Advertiser Sport: “We know ourselves that in the first half we weren't up to the standards we expect but in the second half, we came out and proved what we can do. In the end I think we were unfortunate not to get the win out of the game. We caused them a lot of problems. The goal we conceded wasn't good enough to be honest. It was a scrappy goal but it was also a bit unfortunate.

“That's me on nine for the season now and it is always nice to get on the scoresheet. But it doesn't matter who gets the goals as long as we get results and for the most part we have been doing that, even when we have gone behind in games. We know that even when we concede goals we are capable of fighting back. We have the mentality and the experience in the squad to help push us on in that situation and we have good fitness as well which always helps.”

Despite having to be content with a share of the spoils, Kirkpatrick says the point could prove to be an important one as the Wasps continue to fight for promotion at the top of League One.

“Peterhead is a hard place to come. It is a tough journey up the road and I think every team will find it tough coming here. They are a good side with some good players so I think we have to be happy with the point. Every point will count when it comes down to it at the end of the season, so it could prove to be an important one. We have jumped up to third now but it is so tight at the top with Livingston, Airdrie and Brechin. Livi winning is unfortunate but Airdrie losing gives us a chance to take advantage, but we are really just concentrating on ourselves and trying to get through every game as it comes.”

Having played away from home since the start of November, Alloa now have a run of three home games in a row, and Kirkpatrick is keen for them to capitalise on their home advantage.

He added: “If we can get four points out of this week we will be delighted because that will really help us to get back in the chase. It will be nice to play at home again – we have missed it and we have had a few long journeys which might be starting to take their toll. Hopefully now we have a run of home games we can kick on.”
