WASPS defender Calum Waters produced another fine performance on Saturday, but stressed that the team must get back to winning ways.

The fullback conceded that the team needs to play with intensity from the first whistle.

He told Advertiser Sport: “We didn’t really get going until they scored, which is probably the same as the last couple of games. Once they score, we get a kick up the backside and actually start to play.

“We get the goal and we thought we could have won in the end but it’s just the same again. We need to start doing it from the first whistle.”

The former Celtic player has played consistently well throughout the season but is at odds as to why the team’s form has dipped.

He said: “At the start of the season we were two or three up at half time and now we’re waiting until we’re a goal down before we start playing. We need to pick ourselves up and find out what the problem is.”

Waters admitted that there has been a marked difference in the way opposition teams approach games with Alloa Athletic from the start of the season.

He said: “We were blowing teams away but now they are making it hard for us because they know what we’ve got, so we have to come up with something different.

“We’ve definitely got one of the best squads in the league, if not the best. We will turn them into wins.

“We’ve got that belief. We just need to show it on the park and in front of goal. We need to have a bit more confidence.

“That’s three draws out of three, it could easily have been three wins but it’s not.”

The defender received the man of the match award for his efforts but it acted as a mere consolation for the 20-year-old.

He added: “I didn’t do anything spectacular, I just got on with my job. At the end of the day, the important thing is the three points and we didn’t get that so it just ends in disappointment.

“Jim has reiterated to the fullbacks to stay high and keep putting crosses in the box because that’s what we’re good at. We want to get forward and that’s what we’re encouraged to do.

“But we need to be winning our home games. That’s three games in a row without a win so we definitely need to win next week.”
