THE athletes at the Alloa BC set a new club record when they took home five medals from a major competition earlier this month.

On Saturday January 14-15 the group travelled through to Cardenden for the second biggest boxing tournament of the calendar – the Eastern District Championships.

First up was super heavyweight Dawid Theus who won his semi final bout, but lost his final in a closely-fought contest against Gary Fairgreave from East Lothian.

Next was 14-year-old Murray McWhinney who won his semi final in impressive style catching his opponent with some eye catching combinations.

However, Murray then lost his final on a split decision in what was an entertaining bout.

Jack Boyd, 16, was up next winning his final against a tough young fighter from Craigmillar, landing some heavy back hands to win on all scorecards.

Senior middleweight Anas Nfaou was up next against a former Scottish Champion in his final.

The Clacks fighter got the nod on the judges' scorecards, however, in what was a very close bout.

Victory for Anas was especially sweet, having gone one better than the silver medal he picked up last year.

Last up was for Alloa was current Scottish champion Brandon Beveridge against the talented Jamie Stewart from the Sparta Boxing Club.

Brandon was on top form, landing three and four punch combinations and using his footwork to get him out of trouble.

He picked up the win on all of the judges' scorecards and making him the current Scottish and Eastern Distract Champion.

Meanwhile, on Friday, January 20, Lily McBeth, 13, made her debut on the Glenrothes show becoming the club's first ever schoolgirl competitor in an exhibition contest.
