SAUCHIE manager Fraser Duncan revealed he was “over the moon” after his side’s stunning victory over Broughty Athletic in the last 32 of the Scottish Junior Cup.

Their opponents are flying high in the Super League this season, but couldn’t cope with a second-half blitz which saw Sauchie run out 4-0 winners.

And the Wee County side’s boss reckons the win is testament to the confidence flowing through his team.

Duncan told Advertiser Sport: “We are over the moon. Broughty are doing really well in the Super League, but we worked really hard on our game plan in training this week, and everything just seemed to click into place.

“Throughout the whole game we never looked like we were in any trouble. I can’t put into words how good the boys were all over the park. It wouldn’t be fair to pick any individuals out either because the whole squad were superb.

“I was a bit surprised by how comfortably we won given how good a side Broughty are just now, but they were incredibly lucky to go in level at half time. I don’t think anyone can begrudge us a win by that margin.

“To score nine goals across the last two rounds, especially against teams of that kind of calibre, just shows the confidence the boys have got just now. We have a bit of attitude about us and we are playing some really good football.”

The game marked the return to the starting lineup of captain Brian Morgan, and he marked his comeback in style with two goals, with Duncan labelling his performance “inspirational”.
He said: “Morgy probably wouldn’t have started the game if Josh Flood hadn’t been injured, but we had to take a chance and he has repaid us with two brilliant goals.

“He has been out for a long time, but he looked like he had never been away. He is inspirational and a lot of the boys rely on him. When we went in at half time having missed a few chances I was wondering if we were ever going to score, but Morgy has pulled out a brilliant free kick. That spurred the rest of the boys on.”
Duncan admitted he would like to avoid the cup favourites in the last 16, but says his players will fear no-one.
He added: “To be in the draw for the last 16 is terrific, and hopefully it acts as a bit of a thank you to the fans because they have stuck by us through relegation last year.
“We are in much better shape than this time last year and we are not scared to take on anyone. Obviously we would like to avoid the big teams like Kelty, Bonnyrigg and Auchinleck, but you have to take any draw you are given.”
