SAUCHIE hero David Morrison admitted that there is no feeling quite like scoring in the Scottish Cup after his side reached the last eight of the competition.

The Wee County side beat Renfrew FC 4-2, and the midfielder was thrilled after netting a double which saw them join some of the biggest names in Junior football in the quarter-finals.

Morrison told Advertiser Sport: “It’s always great to get on the scoresheet. You give everything to try and win the game so to have got the two goals feels like I have done my bit. The timing of them was good, because they were really putting us under pressure. It is a great feeling. Scoring in the Scottish Cup is just a completely different feeling to scoring in the league. There is no comparison. I am absolutely delighted with it.”

Sauchie got off to the perfect start and looked to cruising at 2-0 up, but Morrison revealed it took some stern words from manager Fraser Duncan to give them the boost they needed.

He said: “A good start really settles the nerves, especially against a team who are unfamiliar. We played really well in the first 25 minutes then took our foot off the gas a bit. We lost a goal just before half time which is a terrible time to concede, and the gaffer said what he had to say at the break.

"We got a kick up the backside which we needed. We weathered the storm in the second half and got the result in the end. We got the job done and in the cup competitions, it is all about getting the result.”

The midfielder, who recently returned to the club after leaving at the end of last season, admitted that their achievement hadn’t yet sunk in, but revealed the squad feel they can take on anyone the quarter-final draw throws at them.

He added: “I don’t think it will sink in until we see the draw with us in it as one of the last eight teams in the competition. We are all still on a high from Saturday’s result.

“There are going to be no easy games at this stage. I’m not even bothered if we get another away game. I know the club would love a home game but it doesn’t matter to us. We are quite happy to play away from home and we have been getting the results on the road.”
