CALUM Waters admitted Alloa were left frustrated as last Saturday’s stalemate brought their winning run to an end.

The Wasps had beaten the Fifers 3-0 a matter of weeks ago, but were unable to produce a repeat performance.

And Waters says the squad were disappointed with their failure to score, a rare occurrence this season.

He told Advertiser Sport: "It was a frustrating afternoon. We didn't look like conceding at all.

"We were a pretty solid unit at the back but we just didn't manage to create enough chances. Both sides struggled to do that to be honest. It frustrates us because we defended so well and gave ourselves a good platform to build on but we couldn't make the most of it.

"We always go out confident of scoring and it's very rare this season that we don't. More of the issues have been coming at the back what with us not keeping clean sheets. To have kept them out but then not scored is a bit frustrating for us.”

Despite his disappointment, Waters was determined to look at the positives, and says their clean sheet shows that Alloa are improving all the time.

He said: "We've definitely improved at the back in recent weeks, and we are starting to keep more clean sheets.

"There was a spell where we were conceding the first goal every week and that was killing us. You are giving yourself a much better change of picking up points if you keep a clean sheet so the fact we are managing that now is a big positive.”

Although they failed to take maximum points from the clash at Bayview, Waters remains confident that the Wasps can catch leaders Livingston, with the gap at the top of the table currently nine points.

He added: "We are definitely not giving up hope. We firmly believe we can catch Livingston. Our goal for the rest of the season is just to pick up as many points as we can and hopefully that will lead to us closing the gap.”
