SAUCHIE Juniors’ league clash with Tranent was marred by allegations of racist abuse directed at defender Jordan Tapping following the Wee County side’s 2-1 defeat at Beechwood Park on Wednesday evening.
A fracas ensued immediately after the referee ended the encounter, with several Sauchie players and fans insisting that a visiting supporter had directed a foul-mouthed tirade at the centre-back, who was an unused substitute for the game.
Tapping, 20, who was also the victim of racial abuse while playing for East Stirlingshire more than three years ago, had to be restrained as he confronted the fan, who quickly left the ground.
Sauchie manager Fraser Duncan told Advertiser Sport: “Some of the behaviour from one or two individuals from Tranent’s side was shocking. Bringing racism into football is just disgraceful. It disgusts me and I have said that to the lads.
“But my players have kept themselves right and I was pleased to see that. Whatever action gets taken is not for us to decide.”
Tranent Juniors were contacted, but would not comment on the incident.
