SAUCHIE fighter Kunle Lawal has taken his second amateur victory and is on his way to become an MMA pro.

The local lad attended the Budo Fighting Championship in Larbert two weeks ago to take on the tough Irishman Kieran O'Shea in his third amateur bout.

Kunle, 18, made quick work of his opponent, landing some quick strikes before securing a first round submission victory with a rear naked choke.

He trains with other fighters six nights a week at Higher Level MMA in Whitburn, where he is part of The Dinky Ninja Fight Team and spars with the likes of Steven Ray, UFC.

Local pro fighter and team mate Craig McIntosh believes Kunle is destined for big things.

He said: “I used to coach Kunle and have trained with him since he was 14-years-old. In the last year in particular under the tutelage of James Doolan I have seen Kunle improve at a crazy rate.

“At 18 years old he’s already beating up grown men. He is an extremely hard worker, physically gifted and is hungry to learn and get better.

“If he continues to dedicate himself the sky’s the limit for where he can go.”
