SAUCHIE boss Fraser Duncan says his side clinching the East Premier title last Saturday marked a great day for the club.

The Juniors needed just a single point from their penultimate game, but sealed top spot in style with a 6-0 victory over Dundee Violet.

And the manager admitted he is relieved to have returned to the Super League at the first time of asking.

Duncan told Advertiser Sport: “I always felt we were on the verge of running riot because we were creating so many chances. It was difficult for Dundee to keep up with us because we were knocking the ball about so well. The lads deserve a lot of credit. To go on and win 6-0 was superb, and the way we took our goals was brilliant. We had one hand on the trophy before the game but now we’ve sealed it, we can go and enjoy our final game.

“Winning the Premier League the first time was great, but this time was different because it was all about bouncing back. A lot of the time, clubs go into that league and struggle. It’s a really hard division, and the teams coming down from the Super League will have a hard job getting promoted again. We are so glad we’ve been able to go straight back up.

“When you get to this point you are sometimes desperate for the season to finish but I am so happy we are finishing on a high. We have got ourselves back to the Super League which is where we deserve to be. The hard work is going to start for next season to make sure we have the right squad in place to stay in the division. ”

Despite the title already being in the bag, Duncan insisted that his players will be determined to finish the season with yet another victory when they face Downfield Juniors on Friday evening.

He said: “It’s not every day you win a league title so I have been saying to the lads to enjoy the end of the season and make it last. We are going to enjoy Friday night, but we are also looking to get a result. We won’t be going up there to relax, we will be going to put a performance in.”

Despite rumours circulating on social media last week that Duncan would be leaving Beechwood Park at the end of the season, the manager revealed that no decision has been made and says he does not want to detract from his players’ efforts during the season.

He added: “We are holding off making a decision until the season is completely finished because it would be unfair to take the shine off what the players have achieved this year. When it comes down to getting things sorted out we will have the conversation but for now, we are finishing the season on a high and we want to enjoy that.”
