ALLOA new boy Alan Cook has set his sights on the League One title after arriving at the Indodrill Stadium.

The winger is the first of Jim Goodwin's summer recruits, having joined from relegated Stenhousemuir, and he is already aiming for silverware.

And he reckons the Wasps have what it takes to come out on top in what is shaping up to be a compelling title race.

Cook told Advertiser Sport: "I had been speaking to the gaffer for a while so I am glad we were able to get everything done and dusted.

"I'm looking forward to next season. It's a really exciting challenge. I expect us to be up there challenging again next season, and hopefully we will be able to go one step further than the boys did this season.

"It will be a very interesting title race," he added. "There are a couple of full-time teams in there as well as the likes of ourselves.

"Looking at how the squad is shaping up, it is looking strong and it will only get stronger. I feel like I've signed for a club that is one of the best sides in the division and I honestly believe we've got a real chance of winning the title.

"I see no reason why we can't go and win the title. The manager is building a great squad.

"Obviously there will be other teams saying exactly the same thing but if we produce the goods I think we will be right up there come the end of the season."

Cook says Alloa's performances over the last few seasons were a big factor in his decision to move to the Wee County, and he reckons the club is one of the best part-time set-ups in the country.

He continued: "The club's stature over the past couple of seasons was one of the main things that convinced me to join. They had a good spell in the Championship and are now established as one of the top sides as this level. Alloa are a top part-time club who are run the right way."

The winger lists his pace as one of his main assets, and promises to be a creative force for the Wasps, having been involved in no less than half of Stenhousemuir's goals in 2016/17.

He said: "I bring quite a bit of pace, and I'd say I create a lot of chances. I was directly involved in fifty per cent of Stenhousemuir's goals last season, mainly through assists but I also chipped in with a few goals as well.

"My main strengths are in attacking areas. I was pleased with my performances last season and I believe that with better players around me, that will be enhanced."
