DAVID Morrison revealed he will savour the final months of Sauchie’s season after the Juniors lifted the East Premier title to return to the Super League.

Morrison admitted that the Beechwood Park side suffered a wobble as the season entered the closing stages.

But the midfielder is proud of how Sauchie overcame that, and puts their successful season down to their ability to grind out wins when necessary.

Morrison told Advertiser Sport: “The unbeaten run in the first half of the season set us up for this but the last few months have just been incredible. The Scottish Cup run and winning the title have made this an incredible season and it’s great to be able to finish on a high.

“It’s not an easy league and it would have been daft if we had come into it thinking we were going to stroll it at the start of the season. There are some really good teams in there so we are delighted to have got the job done the way we have. We picked up the wins when we had to, and sometimes we had to win ugly. We got results and that’s how you win titles.

“Sometimes when you are chasing and trying to get points on the board it can become a bit of slog. We had a couple of shaky moments but in the last few games we turned on the style and shown what we could do.”

Sauchie clinched the title with a game to spare, and as a result there was a carnival atmosphere as they took on Downfield on Friday evening, Morrison netting the winning goal to ensure the Juniors ended the season on a high.

He said: “To not win the last game of the season might have taken the shine off the achievement a bit. It’s nice to celebrate picking up the trophy with a win. It was 1-0 in the end but it actually felt more comfortable than that. It was typical of the sort of performance we’ve been producing this season.

“It’s always nice to get on the scoresheet. Playing up front was a bit of a new one for me to be honest, but my chance arrived and I was able to take it. I should maybe have had another one but I will certainly take the one I scored.”

Now Morrison is focused on helping re-establish Sauchie in the Super League, and says the players have learned from last season’s relegation.

He added: “We can say we shouldn’t have got relegated last season but being perfectly honest, we didn’t play well enough to stay up. But we are a Super League club in terms of the facilities and in terms of the players we have here.

"That’s where we should be and going down was a major disappointment, so to go straight back up again is brilliant.

“The setup here is better than half the teams in the Super League. We should be in that league and our goal now is to re-establish ourselves. I can guarantee that we won’t be in the position we were in this time last year in 12 months’ time. We have learned from that.”
