Jim Goodwin revealed that midfielders Jon Robertson and Kevin Cawley have signed new deals to remain at the Indodrill Stadium next season.

The duo have joined Andy Graham, Frank McKeown, Neil Parry and Steven Hetherington in signing up for another campaign, with more of the current squad expected to follow in the coming days.

But he admitted that his players are entitled to consider their options should they receive offers from elsewhere.

Goodwin told Advertiser Sport: “Jon and Kevin have committed for next season as well as Andy, Frank, Neil and Steven, which is great for us.

"We are hoping to keep the majority of the group together, and if we can add two or three quality players then we will give ourselves a really good chance of promotion next year.

"Calum Waters, Scott Taggart and Greig Spence in particular are all young enough to potentially go full-time so they are entitled to weigh up their options, but we are still hopeful that they will stay.

"I’m hoping to hear back from the majority of the boys by the end of the week so we should have a better idea of where we stand.

"I’m not one for letting things drag on; if it’s not meant to be then we will move on and find replacements.

“The boys are entitled to go and see what offers are out there after the season they have had, and if a team from a higher division or a full-time side want them then they are entitled to go and speak to them.

"Obviously, we hope that doesn’t happen but the fact they are attracting interest is testament to the season they have just had.”

One player who will not be returning to Alloa for pre-season is Jordan Kirkpatrick, the playmaker having opted to link up with former boss Jack Ross at St Mirren.

Goodwin said: “Jordan was a big player for us last season and we knew there was going to be a lot of interest in him.

"We were aware that Jack was keen on him. Once a full time club comes in for a young player it is a no-brainer.

"We would like to thank him for his efforts.

"It’s my job now to replace him, and if I can bring in a player who contributed as much as he did I will be doing well.”

The Wasps moved swiftly to make their first signing, snapping up Alan Cook from Stenhousemuir, and Goodwin revealed he is delighted to have finally got his man.

He added: “Alan is a player we have really liked for a while. Every time we played Stenhousemuir last season he was a threat, and in games I saw he was very influential.

"He was a shining light in a team that struggled. He was attracting a lot of interest from bigger clubs so I feel like we have beaten one or two of them to the punch.

"He will bring a lot of pace and will be a major threat in attacking areas. We are looking forward to getting him in the team.”
