FIGHTERS From the Thai boxing club at MXP took the opposition by storm at a showcase event in Galashiels recently.

First up, making his debut, was 14-year-old Ben Dreghorn against a tough opponent in Scott Hutchison of East Kilbride in the straw weight division.

Ben won unanimously on points, taking every round, with strong body kicks while also dominating the clinch.

Second up was William Clouston facing Daryl McIndoe, also an East Kilbride opponent, in the light-welterweight division.

William was making his Thai boxing debut following his switch from kickboxing.

He started strong in rounds one and two, with solid boxing and heavy low kicking, before finishing McIndoe in the third with a ferocious left high kick.

Up next was Rory Cummings, also in the light-welterweight division, against local lad Garry Edgar.

Rory has to be praised firstly for taking the fight at 48 hours notice and without a training against a fighter with a big home support.

Edgar won the opening two rounds, being stronger in the clinch, but when Rory came back at the end of the second. coaches Brian Stevenson and Jock McInnes changed the game plan.

Rory completely turned the fight on its head with solid boxing and keeping out the clinch, which Edgar just couldn't cope with.

The MXP coaching staff argued Rory had possibly had the best fifth round of any of their fighters previously.

Forth up was George ' BOOM BOOM' Brock against Aiden Ross of Longhorn Muay Thai in a super-welterweight division clash.

George showcased his talent in emphatic style as his performance prompted the referee to stop the bout in the third round.

Last up was veteran Russel McAvoy, again in the super-welterweight division, against the tough young East Kilbride fighter Michael McFarlane.

Russel started well, however, the height difference proved to be tough for the MXP fighter.

His young opponent's fitness and desire proved crucial, with Russel coming back to action after six years out and at late notice.

Anyone interested in trying Muay Thai boxing classes with the former professional champion Brian 'Snowball' Stevenson classes is invited along on Monday and Wednesday evenings, between 6.45pm and 8pm, to the MXP training centre in Stirling.

The first class is free and beginners are welcome.

The club also runs children's class and women's only classes on Tuesday and Thursdays, from 6.15pm to 7pm and 7-8pm, respectively.
