SAUCHIE new boy Scott Hynd is aiming for the top in his first season with the club – and reckons the newly-promoted side can win the Super League title.

The young striker joined the Beechwood Park club a fortnight ago and has already seen enough to leave him convinced of their ability to finish top of the pile.

And he is hoping to be the driving force behind his new team this season, setting the target of scoring a hatful to propel Sauchie to success.

Hynd told Advertiser Sport: "There's a lot of ability throughout the team. I really hope we kick on in the Super League because we have all the tools.

"I'm excited for the season ahead. I don't see why we can't go out and aim to win the league.

"There's no point in going in with your only aim being to stay in the division. I like to go into things all guns blazing, and if we do what we know we can do then I don't see any reason why we can't be right up there.

"I always try to aim for a target that's quite unrealistic, because that means you're pushing and pushing to reach a higher figure.

"I usually try to get 15 or 20 goals by Christmas. If you can reach that figure it puts you in a really good position for the rest of the season."

Hynd burst onto the scene at Alloa as a 15-year-old with a goal against Arbroath in his second top-team appearance.

And despite struggling to kick on since then, he is confident he can fulfil that potential after making the short switch to Sauchie.

He said: "Having been involved with the Alloa first team for so long I was getting more and more frustrated with the way things were panning out.

"But the training was always first class and I enjoyed working under every different manager. It just didn't work out. Some of my long-term goals are still the same, but for now it's all about getting back to scoring goals."

Hynd added: "I wouldn't say I've got a point to prove, but I have a lot of confidence in my ability in front of goal and I know that if I do play, I'll score.

"Hopefully that means I'll be able to help the team pick up points, because at the end of the day it's all about the team kicking on as a whole."

The 20-year-old admitted it took a while for him to decide where his future lay after he was not offered a new deal at the Indodrill Stadium, but he revealed that once Sauchie came calling there was never any doubt he would end up at Beechwood Park.

The striker said: "It took me a while to get my future sorted out because there were a few clubs interested, but I trained with Sauchie on a Saturday morning, scored a couple in a friendly in the afternoon and really enjoyed it.

"I've known Fraser for a while and I know he's somebody I'll be able to learn a lot from. The ground is nice and the training is really enjoyable, so as soon as I came in I knew this was the club I wanted to be at."
