ALLOA came close to earning an impressive away victory at Ayr on Saturday.

Despite the late leveller from the Honest Men, there were a number of notable performances from the visitors on the day.

Here's how they rated:

Neil Parry....................8

Partially at fault for the opener but outstanding after that. Several crucial saves kept Alloa in it.

Scott Taggart.............7

Having a great season so far and kept his good form going. Up and down the right flank all day, and finished his penalty confidently.

Daryll Meggatt..............7

Very solid out on the left flank and cultured in possession.

Frank McKeown..............7

Dominant at the back despite the absence of regular partner Andy Graham. Won his battles well and got on the scoresheet, despite knowing nothing about it.

Jim Goodwin..............7

Didn’t look out of place despite this being his first start since January. Not shy in the tackle and even had time for some friendly ‘banter’ with a section of the home support.

Jon Robertson.............8

The driving force behind Alloa’s fine performance. Always looking for a forward pass and did his job defensively too.

Kevin Cawley............8 STAR MAN

Outstanding. Worked hard, terrorised the Ayr defence and fully deserved his goal. Has been consistently excellent for the Wasps.

Steven Hetherington..................7

Seems to be thriving in the middle of the park alongside Robertson. A reliable performer.

Kris Renton.....................7

Wasn’t able to get on the scoresheet this week but still put in a good shift. Held the ball up very well and brought others into the game.

Garry Fleming...................7

Played slightly deeper than Renton and linked the midfield and attack well.

Iain Flannigan....................7

Caused all sorts of problems with his set piece deliveries. Contributed to the first two goals.

Adam Martin.........................6

Didn’t affect the game as much as he has done in recent weeks but still impressed with his direct running.

Craig Malcolm.........................6

On for Renton in a like-for-like change and did his job well.

Callum Crane......................6

On late in an attempt to preserve Alloa’s 3-2 lead. Can’t be blamed for Shankland’s late goal.
