FRASER DUNCAN says Sauchie’s victory over Camelon was the perfect way to end their recent slump.

The Juniors stopped the rot with a draw against Bo’ness last Wednesday, before getting back to winning ways against their old rivals three days later thanks to goals from Brian Morgan and Conor Kelly.

And the manager was delighted with his side, despite a nervy end to the game after their opponents controversially pulled a goal back.

Duncan told Advertiser Sport: “The last three games have been difficult, but there was a massive improvement on Wednesday against Bo’ness.

"The focus coming into this game was on trying to catch Camelon. They’ve been on a great run and have had some good results.

“We were very poor in the first half and I gave the boys a bit of a grilling, because the desire and tempo just weren’t there. We upped the work-rate after that and got the goals. They were two good goals from players who have been excellent recently.

“The better team won on the day. We are a better side than them, but it’s a question of whether you’ve got that desire to put that into practice. We’ve done that, so we’re happy with the result."

The gaffer added: “It could have been more, and it could have been a lot easier for us as well. We had a dodgy four or five minutes at the end.

"There was a bit of controversy over their goal and if it was only 1-0 when that went in we’d have been going berserk, but we held on and we’re just happy to get the three points.

“This week was very important for me and we had to take four points from the last two games. We’ve managed to do that and I’m delighted.”

Duncan reckons the Wee County side are now safe from relegation, and says he’s now focused on finishing as high up the Super League table as possible.

He said: “We are safe now. We’re in a position now where it would take an absolute miracle for us to get dragged into a battle.

"Miracles do happen in football and we have seen that in the past, but we are not even looking behind us. We are looking up the table.”

The manager revealed he has already started planning for next season, and is aiming to finish the current campaign strongly in order to give his side something to build on.

Duncan added: “We are aiming to finish strongly, and we’re already working hard to sort a few things out at the club and identify players for next season. A good strong finish to the campaign would give us something to take into next season.”
