FRASER DUNCAN was gutted after his Sauchie side’s heavy defeat against Super League leaders Bonnyrigg Rose.

Despite a good start to the game, slack defending allowed Bonnyrigg to rack up five goals without reply against the Wee County side.

And the manager admitted his players’ performance was not good enough.

Duncan told Advertiser Sport: “It was a poor performance. For 25 minutes we worked hard and did well and then we made a couple of mistakes which cost us goals.

"To lose five goals just to mistakes isn’t good enough. Bonnyrigg are a good side and they are going to cut you open at times. We just couldn’t defend it.

“We didn’t create enough, and we didn’t do the right things which was really poor.

“There are just too many boys carrying injuries and we are just trying to battle through. We don’t have a big enough squad to cope unfortunately.

"The young guys that have come in from the under-19s are doing a great job, but sometimes it’s a little bit much for them. We need a bit of experience at times.”

Duncan admitted that he is just desperate for the season to finish, and says he is relieved his side have not found themselves struggling at the foot of the table.

He said: “To be honest I think our season finished five or six weeks ago. But we will move on to Wednesday night and hopefully we can give the supporters something to cheer about.

“I am glad it’s finished. It’s been a long hard season for us. We are lucky we had a decent few months in the middle of it or we would have found ourselves in big trouble. We have managed to avoid that.”

Sauchie face Bonnyrigg again on Wednesday at Beechwood Park, and the manager is hoping his side can do enough to prevent Rose clinching the league title.

Duncan added: “Bonnyrigg are coming to win a league title so they will be fired right up for it and will be working hard.

"They are a good side and they deserve their league title. If we can put a spanner in the works on Wednesday we will try our best to do that. But we don’t have a lot at our disposal to do that just now.”
