ALLOA have snapped up promising winger Jake Hastie from Motherwell on a loan deal.

The pacy wideman spent last season with Airdrieonians and scored against the Wasps in a 2-0 defeat in Lanarkshire, among other eye-catching performances.

Manager Jim Goodwin feels the youngster will bring a dynamism and energy to his side as he bids to ensure his front line have they supply they need.

He told Advertiser Sport: "We have an agreement in principal to sign Jake Hastie from Motherwell on loan and we're hoping to have the paperwork all sorted out soon.

"He played at Airdrie last year and I've seen him a few times playing for the Motherwell U20s team.

"He's lightning quick and direct and I feel we're going to need that pace and energy in forward areas if we are to survive in the Championship next season.

"Jake has a good left foot on him as well so we hope that he'll be able to supply the strikers."

Goodwin added. "I've got a really good relationship with Stephen Craigan with the U20s side there and I've spoken with Steve Robinson about him.

"And they really rate him. They reckon he's proven himself at League One level and now it's time to do so in the Championship.

"I know they'll be looking for him to break into the first team there next season so he's a really good one for us to get in."

Alloa's recruitment drive continues this week as the team report for pre-season training – just four weeks after their play-off victory over Dumbarton.

The Wasps manager has already brought in Alan Trouten, Greig Spence, David Galt and Adam Brown, with Hastie to become their fifth summer capture.

Goodwin added: "We're looking at everything. There are positions we still need to fill and it will be important to have competition for places.

"What I want is 18-20 players who are all chomping at the bit to play.

"We would prefer to bring players in on a permanent basis so that they were ours, but the loan market has always served us well."
