IAIN FLANNIGAN insisted there were plenty of positives despite Alloa’s defeat to Morton on Saturday.

The long-serving midfielder battled hard beside Steven Hetherington as the Wasps crashed to a 2-0 defeat in their opening home league fixture of the season.

Flannigan, however, was sure there had been enough in both Saturday’s defeat and the previous reverse to Ross County to suggest they weren’t the easy pickings many expect the league’s only part timers to be.

He told Advertiser Sport: “There’s plenty of positives we can take from the first two games, it’s just fine margins. There’s plenty we can build on.

“I thought even today, there was balls into the box that just didn’t quite fall for us. On another day, the result could have been quite different.

“We can only look after ourselves, but at both ends we need to be a bit more clinical.”

The former Morton and Falkirk player celebrated his 150th game for the club earlier this month, having joined in 2013.

However, the veteran was left frustrated by the side’s inability to force the breakthrough in Saturday’s defeat.

The 30 year-old added: “It was all a bit frustrating and I think we played well enough in spells, especially the second half.

“The first goal is crucial at this level. I don’t think there was much in it, they started better than us; it gave them something to hang on to. We did probe, but just couldn’t find a way through.”

Meanwhile, Motherwell loanee Jake Hastie insisted he was settling in nicely to the club, following his summer move.

Speaking after the Morton defeat, he said: “I am enjoying it so far. It was disappointing today, not getting the three points, but we still played well.

"Chances are falling for us, but we just aren’t taking them. [We have] got to keep building on that.

“I am glad I am here and I am really enjoying it. It is a big step between League One (where he played with Airdrie) and the Championship. But, I am really enjoying it, especially getting to play alongside Iain and the rest of the team.

“League One was a lot of long ball, but here I find we try and play more football.”
