Hillfoots....................35

Alloa..........................15

Tennent's Caledonia League, Division 1

HILLFOOTS came out on top with a comfortable victory over their neighbours Alloa at the weekend.

For the home side, it marked a return to victory which began with an Alloa score after just three minutes following good work which put Daniel Murrell through the gap for a try, which went unconverted.

Hillfoots managed to take the lead 15 minutes later after good support play up the middle saw Greig Anderson offload to Vondo Millard to score under the posts.

Just five mins later it was Alex Cameron's turn to dance his way over the line and things looked comfortable for the home side.

However, failure to deal with the kick off saw Alloa claw themselves back into it with an opportunist score from Matthew Pope. Alloa finished the half the stronger and blew two good try scoring opportunities which kept the score at 14-10 going into the break.

Hillfoots started the second half with a bang with full back Martin Hall gliding through for a third score which should have opened the flood gates.

Once again, however, Hillfoots’ indiscipline around the breakdown let the visitors off the hook. Instead of playing in the opposition '22, Hillfoots found themselves defending their own line.

Gradually the home side managed to work their way back down the park as the Hillfoots pack dominated the set piece.

However, a couple of injuries to the visitors saw the scrums go uncontested. From the first one, though, Daryl Lindsay picked up and drove over for the bonus point.

Straight from the kick off Hillfoots scored a fifth after the forwards secured the ball in the '22. A quick ball saw Martin Hall open up the visitors defence before offloading to Cailean Baird-Chalmers who outpaced the visiting defenders.

Once again, the flood gates should have opened. Instead, it was Alloa who finished the stronger, Mark Murray finishing off a long range effort in the top corner. Gregor Manson added five conversions.
