FRASER CHRISTIE’S last kick of the game secured Hillfoots RFC’s first win of the 2023/24 season.

Hillfoots saw a dramatic late minute winner earn them the points as they prevailed 26-27 over Kinross.

The Clacks side have been building up to a win like this, with a good second half performance against Grangemouth and a much improved showing against Dundee last week.

Hillfoots started the match the brighter side and came close to scoring, but the referee deemed a tackle on Ryan Butteworth to be high and awarded the penalty.

Kinross soon took an early lead, which they extended in the middle of the first half with two tries through two intercepts, giving the home side a 21-0 advantage.

Hillfoots managed to fight back as the half wound down to reduce the deficit to just 21-10.

The Tillicoultry side continued fighting until the very last kick of the game. With Hillfoots just one point behind, Christie steps up to bang in the touchline conversion and win the game.

Head coach Graeme Simpson was left delighted with the result, praising his side for their application all match.

He said: “Another game that was certainly a test of mental resilience for the players and leadership team.

“I couldn’t be happier with how hard these players are fighting for each other every game, and it is really great to see them rally around each other when it counts.

“To come away with the result really made it special considering the obstacles we had to overcome in the first half.

“I am excited to see how the group continues to develop and with some players due to return to action in the coming weeks, we are in a really good place.”

Hillfoots now look to next week as they host Panmure at Tillicoultry Park at 3pm.
