ALLOA goal-hero Jason Marr admits he was left 'buzzing' after his late strike earned his side a 1-1 draw with St Mirren in Paisley.

The Wasps had to come from a goal behind when a mix up in the defence gifted their hosts an opening goal on 68 minutes that looked to have sealed the points, but the former Falkirk defender popped up seven minutes later to get on the end of Burton O'Brien free kick and snatch a draw for his side.

And the 26-year-old reckons their fightback at St Mirren Park is proof of the strong spirit they have in the dressing room.

Marr told Advertiser sport: “I thought we thoroughly deserved our draw from the game and one thing you can be sure we will always do is work our socks off for the cause. I thought we were always comfortable in the game, we did well to keep them at bay for long spells and the goal we conceded was just one of those things that happen. We bounced back well from it and to be fair I am absolutely buzzing with the goal. It is a set play that we have worked on and I am delighted with the finish.

“We have a great bunch of lads in the dressing room and I think that is shown with the spirit we have. To lose in the manner we did to Livingston was disappointing for everyone. To then come here, go a goal down and then battle back for a draw is a measure of the lads. We will always work hard for each other and we know we will get chances so thankfully we were able to take this one.”

Marr, who is now in his fourth season with the Clackmannanshire outfit, was annoyed by the concession of the goal that came at the point when they were on the ascendancy in the match, but he believes their response proves that they can still get themselves clear of the relegation zone at the foot of the SPFL Championship.

He said: “It was a frustrating goal to concede at a stage in the match we were starting to get on top and were pushing forward ourselves. It is a wee bit of a mistake, but that happens to the best of us and the reaction we got from the whole team was immense. I think this result is a massive one for us. It allows us to go into the break with a smile on our faces and gives everyone a lift.

“We knew they hadn't had the best of runs themselves so we knew coming in that things could go our way. Other than Rangers and Hibs, everyone else in this league will take points off each other. I think things will chop and change throughout the season, but we are still confident that we can get ourselves well out of harms way.”

The in-form centre back, who put in a man-of-the-match display last weekend, is now hopeful Alloa can build on the positive result as they now have two weeks to prepare for their clash with Raith Rovers at home on October 17.

Marr added: “It is always a confidence booster to get off the bottom and now it is a chance for us to look to build on that with the Raith game. We were well in the game through there and I think the 3-0 scoreline flattered them a little. We know we are capable of winning that game and that is what we will look to do.”
