TOP Wasps prospect Scott Hynd was left buzzing after making his full league debut in the 1-0 loss to Hibs last weekend.

The 18-year-old striker revealed he had to overcome a lengthy injury spell to answer the manager's call for the game against Falkirk and now hopes he can force his way into a regular first team spot.

The Under 20s top scorer has caught the eye in recent seasons with his impact in the development league, but admits he is not going to rest on his laurels after only one appearance.

Hynd told Advertiser sport: “It has been a dream come true to make my full league debut against a side like Hibernian who are one of the favourites to win the league. It is flattering that the gaffer believes in me enough to play me from the start in this kind of game and hopefully I can take my chance now to cement my place in the first team squad. You need to be consistently working hard and performing in training, the U20s games and first team games to get noticed and so if that's what it takes then so be it. These appearances will spur me on to work even harder now to impress.

“I have only recently came back from a couple of months out with injury and I had just the one training session before I came on against Falkirk, but I felt comfortable in the game and felt I added a threat. I have already made some great memories at each level I have played at, but these are the games you dream of coming on to play in never mind starting and I was lucky enough for that to happen for me this week so it is an experience I will never forget.

“I was there to do a job for the team first and foremost and everything else comes after. Of course, I would love to get back to scoring goals for the first team again, but as long as I can help the team that the most important thing.”

Hynd revealed how there is a feel good factor among the club's youngsters after appearances from himself, Ryan Hoggan and Michael Hardie in recent weeks and praised gaffer Danny Lennon for showing faith in them.

The talented teen has heaped praise on his mentor Michael Chopra for taking him under his wing and reckons all of the club's youngster have benefited from the experience of the former Newcastle United and Sunderland star.

He said; “I learn every single day from Chops and he is always there to encourage not just me, but all of the younger lads. He has played at the very highest level of the game and so his experience really rubs off on you.

“There is a feel good factor in the Under 20s dressing room at the minute because we are all working hard and trying to break through. We know now what can happen if we put the shift in and the gaffer has proven he is willing to put you in the team.”

The young hitman is hopeful of making the squad once again ahead of a possible Scottish Cup debut against Dumbarton this weekend.

But admits he could not have got to where he is now without the backing from the Wasps' faithful who have backed him since his first senior goal at just 15-years-old against Arbroath back in 2012.

Hynd added: “The backing I have received from the fans right throughout my time at the club has been immense. They have been there every step of the way since that goal at Arbroath and no matter whether im on the park, on the bench or in stands you can always hear them backing you. I am not going to get too far ahead of myself now, but I will get my head down and work hard in training in the hope of playing a part at the weekend.”
