ALLOA new boy Mitch Megginson says the chance to reunite with gaffer Jack Ross was too good to turn down after sealing a return to the club until the end of the season last week.

The talented striker was left with a huge dilemma when his proposed loan deal to the club fell through after being starved of first team football at Stark’s Park, and feared he may face the rest of the season on the sidelines out of favour.

So when he was offered his release by Raith Rovers boss Ray McKinnon, the striker jumped at the chance of a second spell in the Wee County.

Megginson told Advertiser sport: “I am delighted to be back at Alloa Athletic. It was meant to be a loan deal at first, but the over 21 player ruling meant that it was called off. I had a chat with Raith and they said they would be willing to release me from my contract for the sake of allowing me to get first team football.

"It was a big decision for me so I took the weekend to think it over, but as soon as I spoke to Jack again on the Monday my mind was made up to join. I worked with Jack before at Dumbarton and he helped me both on and off the park a lot so I was desperate to work with him again.

"I just want to focus on my football now and try to help the club pick up points. I just want to play football and do well again. Jack is the kind of coach who can help me regain my confidence and push on to become a better player."

Megginson was left distraught by the 3-1 defeat in his second debut for the club, but he is certain that both himself and his teammates can bounce straight back from that result by shocking Rangers when they come to town next week

The former Aberdeen trainee insists he would not have joined the club if he didn’t believe they good enough to escape their current plight at the foot of the SPFL Championship.

He said: “I am still confident the club can get out of the situation we find ourselves in and I wouldn’t have joined if I didn’t.

"I have been here before and played against them in recent seasons so I know the type of battling spirit they have here so I see no reason why we can’t start to climb the table.

"We have two tough ones coming up now against Rangers and Hibs, but we go into those games with nothing to lose so we will go and give it everything we’ve got.

"I don’t see why we can’t get a result against Rangers. The loss at St Mirren was very disappointing because all three goals were down to our own errors. Other than that I don’t think they really had a chance.

"I thought the referee was very poor and a lot of decisions seemed to go in their favour, but there was a lot of positives to take from the game. We probably created the better chances in the game and we had them pinned back late on so if we can continue to play like that we will be able to pick up points.”

The 23-year-old, who enjoyed a successful loan spell with the Wasps in the 2012/13 under then boss Paul Hartley, reckons Jack Ross can bring the best out in him by deploying him in his favoured wide left position for the remainder of the season.

Megginson added: “Obviously, I know the club well from my first time here and a few of the boys are still at the club so that helps. I played wide left at Dumbarton under Jack, so I think that is where he sees me playing and I am most comfortable in that role as well.

"He is a great coach to work with in that sense because even when I was getting forced back into defensive areas, from the side he was constantly encouraging me to push on.

"I am maybe lacking a bit of match sharpness, but I know that will get better each week and I can’t wait to kick on now.”
