ALLOA youngster Lewis Wilson admitted he is relieved to have signed a new deal to stay at the Indodrill Stadium next season.

The full-back was not sure if he would still be at the club following their relegation to League One, but he has signed terms for the upcoming campaign and says he is hopeful that he will get his first team chance under Jack Ross.

Wilson told Advertiser Sport: “I was a little bit worried because I hadn't really had as many opportunities as I would have liked and I wasn't really sure what was going to happen, but with the size of the squad we had last year and the position we were in it was always going to be quite hard for the gaffer to put young boys in. Going down a league might help some of the young boys get some more opportunities.”

Wilson, who is now in his eighth year with the Wasps, says his game is improving all the time and he believes he has benefitted from the training of both Ross and his old manager Danny Lennon.

He said: “This is my eighth year and I definitely feel like I've improved. I'm getting better and I am enjoying the gaffer's training. It is a lot sharper and more intense under Jack whereas Danny's training was a lot more shape-related. They have two very different training styles but both of them have been beneficial.”

The 19-year-old admitted he was slightly disappointed with his season as he struggled with injury, but believes he can take encouragement from his form at the end of the campaign and is hoping to continue his progress next season.

Wilson added: “I thought I could have had a better season last year. I got better towards the end but I was injured for a lot of the season. I was out for three months so I think towards the end I started to get my rhythm back. I had the opportunity to go on the bench for the last few games of the season and that has given me some encouragement. Hopefully I can keep building from there.”
