ALLOA'S unbeaten start to the season continued last night as they ditched holders Ross County out of the Betfred League Cup.

Jack Ross' men turned in another encouraging display to topple the Premiership side, and remain top of the group ahead their showdown with second-placed Raith Rovers this weekend.

The Wasps raced into a 2-0 lead inside the first 11 minutes with goals coming from Jordan Kirkpatrick and Jon Robertson.

However, County soon rallied and were back on level terms 10 minutes later through Alex Schalk and Brian Graham.

And despite the visitors' striking the crossbar, Alloa showed their worth and claimed a deserved winner in the 72nd minute with Calum Waters finding the net.

Substitute Isaac Layne then hit the post for the home side, who remained resolute to see off any chance of late equaliser.

Alloa will now travel to Kirkcaldy this Saturday with the aim of claiming a fourth-consecutive win and ending the League Cup group stage with a perfect record.

ALLOA: Parry; Taggart, Graham, Marr, Waters; Flannigan, Goodwin, Robertson, Kirkpatrick; Cawley, Spence.
