SCOTT Taggart was gutted after Alloa were pegged back late on by Queen’s Park at the Indodrill Stadium last Saturday.

The full-back had put his side in front in the second half, but a late goal denied his side a second consecutive win.

But the defender says the Wasps will use the disappointment as motivation ahead of Saturday’s game against Albion Rovers.

Taggart told Advertiser Sport: “It’s never nice when you concede late on, especially when it’s the last kick of the ball. But it’s something that happens in football. We have to make sure we take motivation from that into the Albion Rovers game.

“We knew before the game how important a win could be and to have it snatched away like that feels more like a defeat than a draw. All the boys are deflated but we have to pick ourselves up and go again on Saturday.

“We did so well after going in front for the second time and I felt that we were fairly comfortable. We were a lot more like ourselves in the second half than we were in the first and we put them under loads of pressure. We had a couple of chances to kill the game off but it wasn’t to be.”

Taggart admitted that Alloa now face an uphill struggle if they are to catch league leaders Livingston, with the Wasps now lying eleven points behind, but he urged his team-mates to regroup and keep fighting.

He said: “It is a big ask for us to close that gap now but we have to go again. There are no easy games but we have to be strong and keep fighting. Eleven points is a lot at this stage but it’s not out of the question. We just have to keep winning games and see where it takes us.”

Taggart looked ahead to Saturday’s clash with Albion Rovers at the Indodrill Stadium, and says his side can take confidence from their second half display against Queen’s Park which saw them come so close to victory.

He added: “If we play like we did in the second half against Queen’s Park I think we will win the game. No matter who comes to play us, if we play as well as we can do, especially at home, we can beat anyone. There are no easy games in this league but if we play to our full potential we are always confident of winning.”
