GARRY Fleming revealed he can’t wait to get started after completing his move to Alloa from Dumbarton.

The Wasps’ newest recruit left his hometown team after five seasons and is now raring to go as the Wasps target the League One title.

And the forward is right up for what is shaping up to be a thrilling race to finish top of the pile.

Fleming told Advertiser Sport: “It’s good to get the deal done early on because you can then make sure you are properly prepared for the new season. I’m really happy to be here and I can’t wait to get started.

“I’ve spent the last few seasons in the Championship with Dumbarton and I’m here because I think we can get back up to that level too. The goal is definitely to get this club back up there and I’m really looking forward to that challenge.

“I was at Dumbarton for five years and with them being my local team, it was hard when I was told I wasn’t getting another contract. But these things happen in football and you have to move on. I’m fully focused on my next challenge and that is hopefully going to be helping Alloa to the title.

“It’s going to be a really interesting battle. The boys here went so close last season and they were very unlucky not to go up in the end. They’ll be determined to go one better this time around and I’m really looking forward to being part of it.”

Despite his natural position as a striker, Fleming has filled a number of different roles in the past and says he will play anywhere for the Wasps.

He said: “I’ll give one hundred per cent wherever Jim decides to play me. I am a striker but I’ve played in three or four different positions over the last few years and I’d be happy to do so again. My versatility is definitely a strength. Being able to play in a number of different positions makes you so useful to a manager. I’m looking forward to fitting in wherever Jim thinks is best – but wherever that is, I’ll always aim to chip in with a few goals!”

The former Dumbarton man is one of three new strikers to join the Alloa ranks, along with Kris Renton and Craig Malcolm, and with Jim Goodwin still hoping to re-sign Greig Spence, competition for places up front promises to be fierce.

Fleming added: “There is plenty of competition for places and that is definitely a positive. If you’re going to be pushing for promotion you need everyone to be on their toes. I know a few of the boys already and they’ve told me it’s a great changing room.”
