GOAL hero Adam Martin feels he is reaping the benefits of extra hours on the training ground after opening his account for the season against Queen's Park on Saturday.

The teenager's spectacular strike proved to be the winner as Alloa picked up their first victory of the campaign.

And the highly-rated winger revealed he is high on confidence ahead of a season where he has been tipped to make a big impact.

Martin told Advertiser Sport: "I feel like I'm going to make an impact every time I get on.

"I've been doing extra work on my shooting and finishing in training and I do like that one where I cut onto my right foot and curl it across the keeper.

"During the game it set itself up perfectly. I was screaming for it and thankfully Iain Flannigan has got the ability to play the reverse pass there. I'm just glad it went in.

"I'd say it's similar to the one I scored against Celtic in pre-season, but this one had added importance because it was really important that we got that first win of the season and started pushing on up the table."

Martin has set a target of reaching double figures in terms of goals for the season, and is hoping that manager Jim Goodwin has seen enough to hand him a starting berth when the Wasps take on Airdrie on Saturday.

He added: "At the start of the season I was aiming to get ten to 15 goals this season. I'm very confident in my own ability but whether I start is up to the manager.

"Him, [assistant manager] Paddy Connolly and [first team coach] Lee Sharp have all got a lot of experience in the game, so I'm happy to be learning from them just now.

"I'm obviously hoping to start games but it's the manager's decision. If he decides to start me on the bench then I will keep doing what I am doing, and doing my best to make an impact."

The 19-year-old says he has been learning from the more experienced members of Alloa's squad, and is hoping that will make him a better player in the long run.

Martin said: "Throughout the team there's a lot of quality players who have played at a higher level, and that is obviously really good for my development.

"I try to take little bits from each player which I think will make me a better player, because in the long term that will be a massive benefit."
