GOAL HERO Jordan Kirkpatrick admitted he is relieved to be scoring again after netting the first strike of his second spell with Alloa.

The attacking midfielder’s stunning effort proved to be the winner as the Wasps came from behind to beat Queen’s Park last Saturday.

And after several games without finding the net, the St Mirren loanee reckons his wonder-goal was worth the wait.

Kirkpatrick told Advertiser Sport: “At the time it felt quite rushed because there were three boys closing me down, so I was just focused on trying to get into a bit of space. I got a lucky chance to have a shot at goal and fortunately it went in.

“It was definitely worth the wait. In previous games there have been chances I could have maybe put away, but that was probably a confidence thing though not having had a run of games in a while.

"To be fair, the rest of the boys have been scoring a lot so there wasn’t as much of a need for me to contribute. But it’s great to be back among the goals.”

Kirkpatrick reckons the Wasps showed great character to fight back after losing a goal just after half time, and insisted the squad never doubted they would get back into it.

He said: “Even when Queen’s Park scored you could see that there was no worry at all throughout the squad.

"We never thought we were going to lose. We always had faith that we’d be able to get back into it and then go on to get the winner like we did.”

Alloa’s run of seven games in four weeks continues this week, but Kirkpatrick says there will be no complaints from the Alloa squad, who he says are desperate to play as many games as they possible can.

He added: “The main aim is to reach the playoffs but you want to finish as high up the table as possible and I don’t think there’s any doubt that we’re now in a good position to do that. We want to go above Arbroath and get as many points on the board as we can.

“For me, it’s just great to be playing so even if we’ve got games every Tuesday and Saturday I don’t think you’ll head anyone complaining.

"All the boys just love playing. It’s even better that we’re picking up wins because that will give us momentum going into the rest of the season.”
